Restore Safehouse Survivors 2012 from greg wong on Vimeo.
Furthering freedom of survivors through video for Restore NYC
This spring I had the amazing privilege of directing a mini-documentary short featuring the safehouse survivors of Restore NYC. For the first time ever they were interviewed on camera to share about their life stories.
This is possibly the single project to date that I'm the most proud of. A challenge was how to give life to video segments which conceal the survivors' identities with spoken testimonies in another language.
Restore is a NYC nonprofit dedicated to restoring freedom, safety and hope for foreign-born survivors of sex trafficking by providing long-term, holistic aftercare services. Support freedom at restorenyc.org
You can see the body of other past videos that I've produced for Restore:
- "My Fate" - PSA sex trafficking survivor awareness video
- "Girl With A Dream" - Animated short featuring the life cycle of survivors
- "Survivor Lisa" - Mini-documentary about one of Restore's first safehouse women
- "Restore 2012" - Event ambience / montage of hope

Empowerment For Good (Flashing Back and Looking Forward)
I just discovered this past week a video that was made about a presentation I made at the 2009 99% Conference about Restore. A lot of the ideas are still applicable and timely as Restore NYC and sex-trafficking have broken into the public awareness this past year.
I'm thrilled to return to this year's the 99% Conference next week (and as a selected 99% Fellow for the work I've done with Restore). This has been one of the most provocative and inspirational events I've ever attended. This is now my third year attending to mingle with the leading minds of creativity and productivity all in one place.

Restore 2011 New Year's Eve Fundraiser Bash
For the fourth year now, I produced the fundraiser New Year's Eve Bash for Restore NYC. This year was a spectacular one held at the Houndstooth. We had just under 400 in attendance and raised $21,500 from the New Year's Event, which is more than the last three years events combined.
The money raised from Restore 2011 will go to provide tangible after care services: shelter to 8 women for 100 days, food for 1 woman for 100 days, screening and court advoacy to 100 clients, and 30 hours of specialized counseling.
I had great support from a small team for the past few months. We also held a Restore 2011 Warm Up Happy Hour event at the Coffee Foundry on New Year's Eve Eve and two nights later held a Restore 2011 Wrap Up Chill Session at the Ace Hotel. My approach to creating this event was to cultivate as a highly social experience and create as many access points for different people to interact, create new relationships, and also have different things to spread the word about.
We're looking forward to even bigger and better things next year.
